If you take a look at the iconic heroes of Tamil cinema, only Sivaji Ganesan had regularly played the father role in old wizened getups in many films while his contemporary MGR did it only once or twice. In the Rajini- Kamal era, including the two luminaries, Sathyaraj, Vijayakanth and Sarathkumar donned the elderly wigs more regularly.

As far as the current generation of heroes are concerned even Vikram the senior most in age has never gone grey haired so far. The standout leading man in this regard is the birthday boy Suriya who has pushed the boundaries to play double his age. In 'Vaaranam Aayiram' as the father who is there for his son for good or worse touched the audiences so much that many wished for a parent like that.

Later in '24' as the obsessed villain Athreya Suriya again played a wizened old man confined to a wheelchair to good effect. It is Suriya's uncanny ability to absorb the character into his body and the hardwork he puts in to bring it to life is what makes him one of the best among his contemporaries.
