On April 22nd 2019 the big announcement came from Studio Green that 'Suriya 39' will be directed by Siruthai Siva who was then basking in the glory of delivering the monster hit 'Viswasam'. The official post on twitter read ""Sai Sai. Suriya 39 Announcement. We are thoroughly elated to announce that director Siva will helm Suriya 39. Expectations skyrocketing. This is a guaranteed festival for Suriya Anna's Anbana Fans.".

It may be recalled that Siva's debut movie 'Siruthai' starring Karthi and Tamannaah in the lead was produced by Studio Green and the commitment for the Suriya project was made in 2011 itself. Since Siva then got an unexpected opportunity to direct Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Annaathe' produced by Sun Pictures and it was amicably decided to postpone 'Suriya 39'.

Now due to the health condition of Superstar Rajinikanth, it has reportedly been decided to resume the shooting of 'Annaathe' after the Tamil Nadu General elections which would effectively be in the month of June.

Now reliable sources say that Siva has started focussing on the pre-production work for 'Suriya 39' and more details about the rest of the cast, the shooting plans etc will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Suriya meanwhile has finished shooting his portions of Mani Ratnam's 'Navarasa' directed by Gautham Menon and is currently producing and acting in a supporting role in a new movie directed by Gnanavel of 'Kootathil Oruthan' fame. He will soon move on to his biggie 'Suriya 40' directed by Pandiraj and produced by Sun Pictures.
