Granduer director Shankar has worked with most of the top stars of Tamil cinema namely Superstar Rajinikanth, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, Chiyaan Vikram and Thalapathy Vijay. It was reported that he would be directing Suriya in 'Nanban' but things did not work out at that time.

Now the hot buzz is that Suriya has grabbed the movie rights of Su. Venkatesan's epic novel 'Velpari' that chronicles the life and times of famed ancient ruler Velpari aka Pari Valla one of the seven greatest philanthropists in Tamil history. Sources say that Shankar will be directing the film with a budget of rupess thousand crores which will be the highest ever in Indian cinema.

Suriya during the audio launch of 'Viruman' already hinted that he will be collaborating with Su. Venkatesan and now industry insiders believe that it is the new movie he was referring to. The novel focusses heavily on the strong friendship between Vel Pari and poet Kapilar. It will be interesting to see who will be portraying the other major characters. Filming is said to be planned in early 2024 after Shankar completes 'Indian 2' and 'RC 15' and Suriya his lineup of films such as 'Suriya 42', 'Vanangaan' and 'Vaadivaasal'.
