Actor Suriya who has always been a responsible and socially conscious citizen did not cast his vote, as the Tamil Nadu State polled for the 15th Assembly elections on May 16. The actor-producer of the recent super hit '24' has sent a letter seeking apology for not being able to perform his democratic duty as a citizen:

"I wish to thank the people for the tremendous reception and support they have accorded to '24'. At the same time I need to apologize to the people of Tamil Nadu for not being able to vote for the first time.

I strongly believe that it is the duty of every citizen to cast their vote. I have never missed it in my life. I am presently in a foreign country and I had planned to reach Chennai a day in advance to cast my vote. But due to unavoidable situation, I could not go ahead with the plan.

I even checked whether I can vote through postal or online facilities. But there are no legitimate options to do that. I urge everyone to cast their vote without fail on May 16 and I again apologize for not being able to take part in the elections as a voter.

I humbly request people who are affectionate towards me to understand my situation."

This is actor Suriya's message to the people of Tamil Nadu about his inability to vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

It is worth noting that Suriya was part of the Election Commission's campaign to ensure 100% voting in Tamil Nadu.
