In recent times the creative freedom is under threat like never before and even much loved top heroes of Tamil and Indian cinema are not safe from fringe elements. A couple of weeks earlier Vijay Sethupathi was attacked by a man named Maha Gandhi at the Bengaluru airport. He is said to have approached the star in a drunken state and wanted to speak to him claiming to be of the same caste. The busy actor had apparently declined due to his condition which triggered the attack.
The Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath offered a cash price of rupees one thousand and one every time a person attacks and kicks Vijay Sethupathi. The issue caused outrage on social media but no action was taken legally.
Suriya has now faced a similar situation as Siddhamalli Pazhaniswamy a PMK leader from Myladudurai has publicly announced rupees one lakh reward for those who attack and kick the actor. The politician claimed that Suriya's 'Jai Bhim' hurt the sentiments of his Vanniyar community and that the name Gurumurthy that one of the negative characters had was referring to the party's late leader Kaduvetti Guru.
The Coimbatore Pookadai Police Station has registered a case against Arjun Sampath for his threat against Vijay Sethupathi and has started inquiry. Earlier today the Mayiladudurai police station filed a case against Siddhamalli Pazhaniswamy under five sections in connection with his violent threat against Suriya. The moves have been welcomed by both Vijay Sethupathi and Suriya fans and the film fraternity on social media.
