Is Suriya-Bala’s ‘Suriya 41’ project releasing directly on an OTT platform?

Suriya recently made it official that he is joining hands with director Bala after almost two decades. Bala is a great friend and mentor to Suriya in his film career as his directorial ‘Nandha’ provided the much-needed breakthrough for Suriya in Kollywood. The team has started shooting for the film a couple of days back in Kanyakumari. 

Tentatively titled ‘Suriya 41’, the upcoming film is reported to have Jyothika on board alongside Suriya after a long time. The production house 2D Entertainment updated that Krithi Shetty and Mamitha Baiju are playing the other female leads. Meanwhile, some recent online reports are claiming that ‘Suriya 41’ will be a direct OTT release. 

It is notable that Suriya’s previous movies ‘Soorarai Pottru’ and ‘Jai Bhim’ were released on Amazon Prime back to back. Several theatre owners are opposed to releasing films by Suriya’s productions because 2D Entertainment’s ventures since 2019 have been premiering directly on OTT. However, Suriya has clarified the report in his recent interaction and assured that both ‘Suriya 41’ and ‘Vaadivasal’ will be celebrated in theatres. 

Let’s hope that Suriya will sort out the issues between 2D Entertainment and the theatre owners before the release of ‘Suriya 41’, for a smooth theatrical release of the film. The upcoming project will have music scored by GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography is to be handled by Balasubramniem.  A huge village set is being erected in Kanyakumari for Suriya and Bala’s untitled film.
