After his most recent movie Kaappaan, directed by K.V. Anand, was met with mixed reviews, Suriya is currently busy with work on his 38th film, Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad.

Meanwhile, fans had been speculating that director Vetrimaaran, who is riding high on Asuran's success and is arguably one of the most demanded directors currently, might team up with Vijay or Suriya for his next project. An official announcement regarding the same is finally here, as producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has taken to Twitter to inform that Suriya's 40th movie, bankrolled by V Creations, will be directed by Vetrimaaran. This will be the maiden collaboration of Vetrimaaran and Suriya.

Thanu and Suriya had previously worked together in 'Kaakha Kaakha' and 'Maayavi' while the producer also bankrolled Vetrimaaran's Asuran. It is being speculated that Suriya will be collaborating with director Hari for his 39th film. Meanwhile, Vetrimaaran's next film is expected to feature comedian Soori in the lead role.
