Suresh Kondeti, the producer of Anjali-starrer 'Lisaa', is confident about the film's success ahead of its release on May 24. In this interview, he talks about what made him want to produce the horror-comedy, the scale of release, how he does multi-tasking efficiently and more.
What is so unique about 'Lisaa'?
When I was too young, a film titled 'Chinnari Chetan' was released. I was spellbound by it when I watched it in 3D. I always wanted to produce such a film. When I came to know about 'Lisaa', I latched on to the project. The producers of the original version called me up to make me the PRO of the Telugu version. Since I loved the concept and the story, I decided to become its producer. Anjali (actress) and the director of the film too suggested that I step in. I had produced 'Shopping Mall' and 'Journey' in the past.
What is the genre of the movie?
Horror is its primary feature. Comedy is laced with the situations. There is also a sentimental side to the story. Sentiment and emotions are integral to 'Lisaa'. This is one of the most refreshing movies on the Telugu screen.
We are releasing the movie in about 400 theatres. There are 3D screens in almost every centre in the Telugu States. Where 3D screens are not available, 'Lisaa' will release in 2D format. The film has come out really well.
How is the pre-release business of the movie?
Even before the media got to know about me owning the rights of 'Lisaa', the film got sold in six districts in just four hours. By the next day, the entire theatrical business was done.
You have been wearing several caps. You are a producer, a PRO, a publisher, a distributor and also take care of some responsibilities at MAA. How is it possible for you to multi-task?
I never do anybody's 'bhajana'. I carry out my responsibility perfectly. When I am in an organization, I take care that it doesn't lose a single rupee because of me. I reach out to people to the extent I can. When it comes to time management, I take inspiration from Megastar Chiranjeevi garu. He works very hard. I am happy to be giving away Santosham Awards every year for the past 18 years uninterruptedly. I will always continue with Santosham Magazine whatever may be the level of competition from the digital space.
It has always been your dream to produce a movie with Chiranjeevi. When is it happening? Are you planning any movie with Shakalaka Shankar?
Not now. I remember that, in 2004, Megastar happened to say on the stage that I may one day produce a movie with him. That very sentence is a blessing. As for a film with Shankar, we have a subject titled 'Srikakulam' in mind. It's a very good story.
How do you keep yourself abreast with the latest developments in the film industry?
I am passionate about movies. I always try to keep myself updated about what is going on in the industry. And I do everything sincerely.
