Suresh: I hope to edit a film like Kanchivaram
- IndiaGlitz, [Monday,January 30 2012]
One of the youngest editors in Tamil film industry and a promising young talent, Suresh, gets candid with IndiaGlitz about his career so far, his mentor Antony, future projects and a lot more. Read on as he talks about ÂKadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi thatÂs all set to hit the screens as a Valentines Day special, ÂRendavathu PadamÂ, ÂKarikalanÂ, his future projects and a lot more. Tell us about the much acclaimed Thoonga Nagaram? It was a pleasure working with Gaurav who debuted through this film. I was given a lot of time, in fact more than eight months to edit the film so I was able to put in my best into the project. Maybe thatÂs why itÂs still much talked about. How was it editing a romantic film like KSY / Love Failure? The team is a very young one. I have a close association with Y Not Studios and Cloud Nine Movies for they gave me my big break. They approached me with this bilingual which is set in a college which only made us more enthusiastic for itÂs something we can relate to. We were editing the film simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. In fact we were editing as and when the shooting was taking place. WeÂve tried a narrative format in the script, I really hope people like it. The film is based on a short film the director had earlier done and since the short film is a viral one (a super hit among the young), it has been a challenging project for me, for we need to maintain a certain interest level and maintain curiosity. The film is hitting the screens shortly, IÂm happy with the end product. Karikalan is a period film, will we see a new format of editing? The director called me after watching my short film Mugaputhagam. He asked me to do a small trailer and since he was happy with it he asked me to edit the film. This film required some special training as 3D and VFX are to be pre-planned, in fact for some action sequences we are rough editing, adding music and then editing them again to make it more realistic. All this has made the film a challenging offer. Tell us about Amudhan, your teaming with him for Rendavathu Padam after Tamizh Padam A lot of planning has gone into this film that has a good dosage of action sequences as well. We did three months of pre-production work and the second schedule will soon start. Working with Amudhan is such a pleasure and heÂs the director IÂm most comfortable with! How was it working with ace editor Antony? I must say it was a gift working with him for thereÂs so much to learn each day. Most memorable experience working under him was for Vettaiyaadu Villaiyadu, Varanam Aayiram, and Hindi Ghajini. And when itÂs a Gautham  Antony combination, itÂs like working for a Hollywood venture for both are pucca professionals. How do you look at the short film scenario in Tamil? ItÂs an emerging trend, producers these days want to see whether a director is capable before giving a project and short films are a perfect medium to get in. Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi is a perfect example for this. Any challenging genres youÂre looking forward to work on? I want to work for emotional dramas than just commercial projects as they are difficult to edit, you need to maintain the pace and bring out the right emotion. I hope I get to edit a film like Kanchivaram. |
