Supreme court of India is expected to hear a petition which was filed against the appointment of M.Nageswara Rao as the Interim chief of CBI, next week. Nageswara Rao was appointed as the interim chief after the sacking of the then chief Alok Verma by a three member central vigilance committee headed by Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi.
Ever since his appointment last Friday, Rao began reversing the decision that were made by Alok Verma two days prior to his appointment, and he also went on to start making structural changes in the organisation and managing the work split-up between the CBI offices in different parts of the country.
Advocate Prashanth Bhushan, representing an NGO had filed a petition against Nageswara Rao's appointment, saying that his appointment was illegal and was against the Delhi Police Special Establishment act. The petition also sought appointing a regular chief as Rao has cancelled transfers sanctioned by Alok Verma. It must be noted that Alok Verma was offered the role of fire services chief, which he had refused and submitted resignation.
