Ending the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue, which is one of the longest running disputes in India, the Supreme Court has ordered to handover the disputed 2.77-acre land to the Hindu parties besides also instructing the central government to form a trust to monitor the construction of a Ram Temple.

The Supreme court also ordered that the Sunni Waqf Board will be given 5 acres of alternate land. This unanimous verdict from the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court comes nine years after the judgment of Allahabad High Court which ordered division of the disputed 2.77 acres of land between Ram Lalla, Sunni Waqf Board and the Nirmohi Akhara. The Lucknow Bench of the High Court said on September 30, 2010, that Hindus and Muslims will be joint title holders of the disputed land.

Earlier today, the Supreme court said that as per ASI reports Babri Masjid was not constructed on vacant land and that there was an underlying structure which was not an Islamic structure, and finally gave control of the site to Ram Janambhoomi Trust.
