Protests are going on for setting up of a regulatory board to manange the distribution of water from the river Cauvery. The Supreme Court gave its verdict in February in which it sought the setting up of the Cauvery Management Board in a six-week stipulated time.

The country’s apex court also wanted the centre to give its plans on sharing the river water among the states by May 3. The central government was reprimanded by the Supreme Court today for ignoring its orders. It also criticised three centre for not approaching it by March 31 deadline if it had difficulties.

In this regards, the centre has asked the SC for three more months to set up the board stating that doing it now may not be a good idea with election coming up soon.

It is to be noted here that Karnataka has oftentimes cited low monsoon as a reason to reduce the water share. With people, political parties and significant members of the film fraternity staging protests, it is expected that the issue will soon see resolution.
