Supreme Court's hearing on Article 370
- IndiaGlitz, [Tuesday,August 13 2019]
While addressing the Rajya Sabha on August 5, Union Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution to scrap Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which grants special status to the state. Not all provisions of Article 370 will be applicable in Kashmir, he announced.
The Supreme Court has refused to intervene on the issue and has announced that it will wait for normalcy to return to J&K and will take up the matter after two weeks. The hearing came after a petition was filed by activist and Congress leader Tehseen Poonawalla seeking withdrawal of curfew, blocking of phone lines, internet, news channels and other restrictions from Jammu and Kashmir. We are reviewing the day-to-day situation. It’s a highly sensitive situation, it’s in the interest of everyone. Not a single drop of blood has been shed, no one died, an Attorney General said in the court.
Article 370 specifies that except for defence, foreign affairs, communications and matters specified in the Instrument of Accession of Jammu and Kashmir, the Parliament needs the state government's ratification for all other laws.
