Superstars who became their own villains

Fans and audiences get excited when their idols appear in dual roles and their frenzy touches its peak when the superstars play both the hero and the villain. Here we take a look at instances where the bigwigs of Kollywood became their own villains on screen.

Mohan - 'Manithan Maarivitaan'

Manivannan’s 1988 film had Mohan playing an innocent man who is mistaken for a dangerous criminal who resembles him and he has to pose as his lookalike to bring him out and kill him. But the director gives a final twist which keeps the audiences guessing whether the man killed is the hero or the villain.

Karthick - 'Chinna Raja'

This 1999 film directed by Chithra Lakshmanan had the Navarasa Nayagan playing a rich spoilt kid who stops at nothing to save his fortune from going to his righteous half brother. Needless to say that Karthick excelled both as the hero and villain.

Sathyaraj – 'Amaithi Padai' & 'Villadhi Villain'

In Manivananan’s masterpiece ‘Amaithi Padai’ and in his own directorial ‘Villadhi Villain’, Sathyaraj rocked as the villain against himself as the unforgettable Amavasai in the former and the slippery Poovu in the latter.

T. Rajendhar - 'Uravai Kaatha Kili'

The inimitable T. Rajendhar played dual roles as the self sacrificing younger brother who has to deal with his polar opposite elder sibling who is a good for nothing alcoholic.

Jiiva : 'Singam Puli'

The talented younger generation hero Jiiva gave solid performances as brothers with the elder one being a merciless womanizer who goes to the extent of killing their father.

Jayam Ravi : 'Aadhi Bhagavan'

In this Ameer film Jayam Ravi portrays Aadhi a career criminal and the transgender villain who is more than a match for him. A bold step taken by Ravi which paid off with his performances garnering huge praise.

Simbu : 'Anbanavan Adangadhavan Asaradhavan'

In the underproduction ‘AAA’ directed by Adhik Ravichandran one of the three characters played by Simbu is a deadly villain called Madurai Michael.

Vikram : 'Iru Mugan

In Anand Shankar’s super hit ‘Iru Mugan’ Vikram swayed audiences with his dual roles for the first time in his career and the transgender villain Love that he played to perfection was instrumental for the film's success.

Karthi : 'Kaashmora'

One of 2016s mind blowing performance is undoubtedly Karthi's dual roles as the fraudulent tantric 'Kaashmora' and the ancient villain Raj Nayak who terrorizes the hero as well as Nayanthara in the flashback scenes.

Ajith : 'Vaali'
