The double murder of father-son duo Jayaraj and Bennicks by police brutality in Saathankulam has shocked the nation and many celebrities from various fields including Kamal Haasan, Shikar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh expressed their angst.

Superstar Rajinikanth has just now released a statement in which he has come out strongly against the brutal policemen. He has written in Tamil "Even after the entire humanity condemned the brutal killing of the father and son, I was shocked to learn the manner in which certain policemen spoke and behaved right in front of the magistrate. Those involved should be punished severely. The should never escape."

ayaraj and Bennix were arrested on January 19 and booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 353 (use of force to deter public servant from duty) 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), and 506(2) (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. They were allegedly brutally tortured while in custody and were later released and taken to a hospital where a doctor declared them fit despite eyewitnesses reporting that they beaten up and still bleeding. They later succumbed to their injuries one after the other.
