Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Kaala' has opened up garnering huge praises for the stalwart's acting and Pa.Ranjith's political stand in supporting the downtrodden people's rights of land and livelihood. Rajni plays 'Kaala' a don like figure who is a godfather to the Dharavi people. He teaches them how to fight for their rights and stands by them even after losing his dear ones.
The film contains scenes of the people's protests against the wily politicians and how the police-politician nexus turns the peaceful protests into a killing field. These scenes and sequences in a perfect world should have worked wonders for Rajinikanth the politician. Alas it is not a perfect world and a few days back Rajini sided with the establishment in the Sterlite protest killings and also supported the cops actions.
In 'Kaala' Rajini himself thrashes a cop but condemns it in real life. These scenes that should have had the crowd (the general audiences) cheering for their hero end up being muffled due to the hero's stand in real life. Political analysts are of the opinion that this is a huge opportunity lost for by Rajini to gain his political momentum. They say if only the Thalaiavar had not made a late visit to Thoothukudi and more importantly not made those statements the Rajini Makkal Mandram would have had reasons to rejoice.
The film trade analysts too feel that the politician Rajini's stand has affected the box office prospects of 'Kaala' which should have been doing much better business than what is being reported.
