Earlier today we had reported the new record created by Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Kabali' in its second weekend in Chennai box office. The film directed by Pa.Ranjith and produced by Kalaipuli.S.Thanu has emerged as the first ever film to collect Rs.2 crores in Chennai in its second weekend.
Now we have an interesting report about the profitability of the film across Tamil Nadu. We learn from a reliable trade source that the film has collected close to Rs.70 crores from the day of release (July 22) till Yesterday (July 31) with a distributor share of Rs.51 crores. This collection across the state is second only to the Superstar's 2010 blockbuster 'Enthiran'.
Especially in Chennai, Chengalpet, Coimbatore and Madurai distribution centers, the film has done exceptionally well with a share of nearly Rs.50 crores within ten days of release.
With this range of collections, all the distributors and theater owners across Tamil Nadu have safely landed in the profit zone with a 75-25 sharing agreement of collections with the film's producer. Reportedly there was no MG (amount given as Minimum guarantee) involved.
It is worth mentioning that the film has acquired the 30% Entertainment tax exemption given by the Tamil Nadu Government which means the gross collection is almost equal to the net collections of the film.
