Lokesh Kanagaraj, after the unprecedented success of Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' is now the most sought after filmmaker not only in Tamil but in South Indian film industries. He is currently shooting Thalapathy Vijay's new movie 'Leo' in gruelling conditions in the Kashmir valley. The film has one of the biggest expectations ever for a Tamil film.
Meanwhile there is a strong buzz in Kollywood that Superstar Rajinikanth called for Lokesh Kanagaraj and asked him to develop a script for him promising him dates in the last quarter of this year or early 2024. It is said that the young director was surprised by this unexpected meeting as it throws all his plans into question.
Lokesh Kanagaraj has already announced that after 'Leo' he wll move on to 'Kaithi 2' starring Karthi and then 'Vikram 3' that will unite Kamal, Suriya and Karthi. He also is committed to a few Telugu films starring Tollywood superstars. It is said that since directing Rajini is a rare opportunity Lokesh and his team are planning to speak to Kamal and Karthi's production houses to allow changes in their schedules to allow him to accept the Rajini film.
It is worth mentioning that Lokesh Kanagaraj was signed on by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Film International to direct Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Thalaivar 169'. But the project did not take off due to various reasons including the COVID 19 pandemic. 'Vikram' was made instead of that project and went on to create history.
It is unknown as of now whether Rajini and Lokesh will opt for the same script they discussed in 2019 or this will be a brand new one. There is also a question whether Rajini will become a part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Lets stay tuned for how this exciting story develops and whether this electrifying combo happens or not. Rajini is currently in the last leg of shooting for 'Jailer' directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and soon move on 'Laal Salaam' directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth and 'Thalaivar 171' directed by T J Gnanavel.
