Chatrapathi Sivaji the Maratha warrior King and V.C. Ganesan who later became Sivaji Ganesan for playing him to perfection are two legends that India is proud of. Today the living legend Sivaji Rao Gaekwad better known as the Superstar Rajinikanth continues to be an unparalleled phenomenon in the world of cinema whose life and work are sheer magic..
After making his debut in 'Moondru Mudichi' by the hands of the Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachandar, in the late 70's, Rajinikanth started evolving as a unique icon among Tamil audiences with his experimental roles in the films like Bairavi', Mullum Malarum' and Dharma Yuddam'. In the year 1979, the Sivaji Ganesan starrer Naan Vazha Vaipen' created a huge impact on the movie buffs as a large number of people went to the theatres only to watch Rajini's extended cameo role and left once his portion was over. This made the entire industry sit up and notice the new Superstar in the making who later on took over from both the reigning Kings Sivaji and MGR as the most celebrated actor.
With astounding pace, Rajini's career graph zoomed up and has stayed at the top till date and the title Superstar became his own. Moondru Mudichu', Ninaithale Inikum', Billa', Thillu Mullu' and '16 Vayathinile' were the biggest blockbusters from him during the 80's era. Critics of 90's did not expect such a huge thunderstorm in the box office as films like Thalapathi', Muthu', Baasha' and Padayappa' redefined the market of Tamil cinema all over the world.
Enjoying the biggest stardom and the huge wealth it brought him has never made the legend take advantage of the space given by the people. He never termed himself as simple, but the way he behaves even to the common man validates the point. People around him always say that they feel a divinity and peace because of his clean thoughts and shares.
K. Balachander was said to have been attracted by his eyes and style. Rajini donated his eyes and initiated a social thought among his fans. He is a philanthropist who always thinks about the welfare of society. Earlier he was instrumental in instigating his fans to smoke cigarettes because of his unique style but later he realized his blunder and has since strongly advocated against smoking. he also stopped smoking and boozing on screen.
A star is always expected to be extra kind and affectionate towards the society as a person. Rajini as a person has exceeded that expectation. The recent example for this is his benevolent donation of Rs.10 Lakhs for the relief and rehabilitation of rain affected Chennai. He has also asked his fans to deviate the time, money and energy they would spend to celebrate his 65th birthday (falling today) for the relief related works in Chennai.
The most wonderful thing about our superstar is that his larger than life persona only exists on the screens. In real life only Sivaji Rao Gaekwad, the simple son of a police constable is exists in him and the greatest lesson for the younger generation from India's biggest superstar is his simplicity.
Indiaglitz wishes Superstar Rajinikanth a Happy Birthday and Many More Glorious Years to Follow.
