Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Patriarch M.Karunanidhi has been unwell for the past several weeks. On the early morning of December 1, 2016 he was admitted to Kaveri hospital in Chennai and was still under the doctor's observation even on the days when his political rival and Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha and was discharged on the day when his staunch political critic and personal friend Cho Ramaswamy passed away last week.

The nonagenarian leader is however yet to completely recover and the party high command has requested its cadre to not visit the leader's house and cause any disturbance to him.

However Superstar Rajinikanth who has been maintaining a cordial relationship with the five time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu paid a personal visit to Karuna's Gopalapuram residence and inquired about his well being. Veteran lyricist Vairamuthu, a very close friend of Karunanidhi also visited around the same time.

Karunanidhi's son and opposition leader M.K.Stalin received the duo and accompanied them till the entrance while they returned home.

Rajinikanth retains a good relationship with politicians cutting across parties. It is worth recalling that he paid the last respect to the departed CM Jayalalitha with his entire family. He has also requested his fans to not celebrate his birthday tomorrow (December 12) on account of CM Jayalalitha's death.
