Superstar Rajinikanth celebrated his 72nd birthday yesterday and many political leaders including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Leader of Opposition Edappadi Palanisamy, Thol Thirumavalavan, Seeman, Anbumani Ramadoss and Udhayanidhi Stalin posted their best wishes on social media. His long time friend and professional rival Kamal Haasan as well as Ilayaraja and Vairamuthu were among the film industry celebs to convey their love on Twitter.

Fans thronged the Poes Garden residence of Rajinikanth to catch a glimpse of him but Lata Rajinikanth came out and informed the crowd that her husband was out of station. She adviced them not to wait in the rain avoid disappointment.

Meanwhile, a mass photograph of Rajinikanth chilling with his two grandsons Yatra and Linga is going viral on the internet. The bonding that the legend shares with his first daughter Aishwarya's children has moved fans. The b'day boy is seated on a sofa with Yatra hugging him from behind while Rajini's hand is on Linga's head who is on the floor by his leg.

Though fans missed wishing Rajini in person they were treated to a stunning character glimpse trailer of his new movie 'Jailer'. Rajini plays Muthuvel Pandian an ageing cop in the Nelson Dilipkumar film produced by Sun Pictures with Anirudh scoring the music.

The team of Rajini's next film 'Laal Salaam' also released a new poster in honor of the much loved hero. The film produced by Lyca Productions is directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth with Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth playing the lead roles.
