Sunil Shetty was arguably the biggest action star of 90s along with the likes of Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan. He has spent around 30 years in the industry but his star has somewhat faded as of now. His contemporaries like Akshay and Ajay are in much better places given their recent works. Recently the actor opened up about the factors that hindered his progress as an actor.
Right after his debut film 'Balwan', Shetty was typecasted as an action hero and subsequently starred in cult classics like Mohra, Border etc. However, his most iconic role was in the comedy franchise 'Hera Pheri'.
Sunil shared that he often refrained himself from experimenting and exploring the space of acting. He always tried to play things safe. Apparently, he used have strict rules about which actors or directors he will work with. Successful actors these days are the ones who developed their own style and identity. Sunil further explained his point by saying that people are willing to risk 500 crore rupees investment in Akshay's films while no one is going to risk even 50 crore for a film starring himself.
