With Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page leaving their leadership roles, the search engine giant's CEO Sundar Pichai has become the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet, as well. "I am excited about Alphabet’s long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology. Thanks to Larry & Sergey, we have a timeless mission, enduring values and a culture of collaboration & exploration - a strong foundation we’ll continue to build on," Pichai today said.
Congratulations are pouring in from all quarters. Meanwhile, Twitterverse is busy sharing interesting facts about the Madurai-born world-renowned CEO. Says Harsh Mariwala, "When #SundarPichai was asked at his job interview what he thought of the newly launched Gmail, he admitted that he didn't know what it was. Great leaders don't have to have all the answers, all the time. They need the courage to understand & admit that they don't know it all."
Tweets out Madhavan Narayanan, "When I came to Kharagpur for the first time I thought abe saale was how people usually call each other. Once I shouted abe saale in the mess and it basically caused the mess to shut down for a few days" -- #SundarPichai on his struggles with Hindi as an IITan."
There was a time when Pichai was seen as just an average performer at IIT Kharagpur. He joined Google in 2004, only to become its CEO in 11 years.
