It is no exaggeration that few modern writers in Tamil can claim the popularity and wide readership that Sujatha enjoyed in his lifetime. As an engineer he was instrumental in designing the electronic voting machine that is used in India and worldwide. His main theme as a novelist was man-woman relationship but he has dabbled in horror and was one of the first in Tamil to write science fiction.
Sujatha`s novels have been made into films as early as in the seventies like Gayathri` and Priya` both starring Rajinikanth. Later in the mid eighties, it was Kamal Haasan who teamed up with Sujatha in the supercop thriller Vikram` and from then on he started very fruitful collaborations with Mani Rathnam in Roja`, Thiruda Thiruda`, Kannathil Muthamittal`, Uyire` and Ayudha Ezhuthu`. Sujatha was the backbone of director Shankar`s body of work which includes his debut Gentleman` and went on till even after his death in Enthiran`.
Using simple words to convey the highest philosophies of life was Sujatha`s motto and that is what one him the hearts of millions and millions of readers and movie goers for whom he still lives and speaks through his overwhelming body of works.
