Nobody could have been prepared for the tragic mass killing in Route 91 Harvest festival in Las Vegas, when retired accountant Stephen Paddock opened fire on unassuming civilians, killing 58 and injuring several hundreds.
Information is out on the vantage point of the shooter: his 32nd-floor suite at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino that offered a perfect view of the grounds where the 3-day festival was to take place. Housekeepers reported to seeing nothing unusual in the suite, whereas police investigation revealed several cleverly hidden arms, ammunition, mounts and hammers. The gunman had this equipment gradually brought over to his lodging, although the police has kept mum on how he managed to bring in such a huge quantity.
When bullets started raining, people realised it was coming from a high point. Paddock had knocked down two windows to shoot from two angles, making it impossible for people to escape. When the police identified Paddock’s room, he shot at them; the SWAT team soon arrived and opened the doors using explosives, but it was too late: Paddock had shot himself.
