Sufi Paranja Kadha

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • Malayalam Comments

After creating movies like Neythukaran and Pulijanmam, which won many awards at the national and international circuits, Priyanandanan is back with another movie `Sufi Paranja Kadha'. This time Priyan opts for writer K P Ramanunni's award winning novel, as his base element of the movie. The novel of the same title was published 18 years back and is now sold in 8 languages.

The movie is designed as told though the eyes of a Sufi, a mystic Muslim scholar. The movie features Sharbani Mukherjee as Karthy, who belongs to a prestigious Hindu tharavadu. From her birth signs, the family patriarch Sanku Menon senses some imminent dangers to happen to the prestige of the family.

As she was born in an elite family, Karthy hardly has any friends. And when she grows up into a beautiful girl, she falls in love with a Muslim trader named Mammootty. The two starts to live together in Mammootty's household. With her knowledge in local medicine she cures illnesses of some and this brings them a lot of admirers and friends.

Though she converts herself into a Muslim, she never gives up her original beliefs and to avoid Karthy from going to the temple, Mammootty builds one inside his house. The story about a Muslim girl praying in a temple inside her house starts a pandemonium in the surroundings. The associated tensions begin to showoff in the lives of the couple and that forces them to move apart.

The producer of the movie Prakash Bare appears as Mammootty while Thampi Antony is Sanku Mama, the patriarch of Karthy's tharavadu. Jagathy Sreekumar, Babu Antony and Samvritha Sunil are also in the cast. Rafeek Ahmad's lines are set to music by Mohan Sithara. K G Jayan is the cinematographer.

Produced by Silicon Media and distributed by Central Pictures.

`Sufi Paranja Kadha' will get into theaters this week.
