Controversy over the marriage in singer Sudha Raghunathan’s family

Popular Carnatic and film playback singer Sudha Raghunathan’s daughter Maalavika who is working in the US as a doctor fell in love with Michael Murphy a black American and their marriage is set to be held in Chennai on July 11th.  There has been severe criticism towards the singer and her family due to their marriage to a Christian and there have been horrid comments on the colour of the groom too on social media.

In the meantime, rumours have also spread that Sudha Raghunathan’s entire family have converted to Christianity and so-called culture police are calling for a boycott of the singer in major Brahmin controlled Sabhas.  However there is also equal support for the affected as neutral voices hold that marriage is the private matter of individuals and no one can force anybody in this regard.  Singer Chinmayi has extended her support stating “Just got to know from friends about Sudha Raghunathan’s family being bullied. This so called RSS man that also bullied OS Arun no other business or what? There was apparently a time when the RSS did some stellar work including rescuing girls trafficked into the flesh trade.
