College students have started protesting across Tamil Nadu against NEET. The new series of protest is the result of the outrage caused by the suicide of TN Medical aspirant Anitha, who could not secure a medical college seat due to the implementation of NEET exams.
Today a section of students started protesting in front of the Memorial of late Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha who was strongly opposing NEET till her death. It is to be noted that Marina is the place where the world renowned Jallikattu protest started in January and saw the participation of lakhs and lakhs of Tamil people. However, after the Jallikattu protest the Chennai City Police have banned any kind of protest and public gathering at Marina. After the suicide of Anita, a large number of police personnel have been deployed throughout the stretch of Marina beach to avoid the emergence of any protest. However, today a group of students gathered at the Jaya Memorial located at the end of Marina. This place where the memorials of late CM's Anna and MGR are also located is not open for protests. the police have not allowed the Students protests against NEET at Jayalalitha's memorial. All the student protesters have been arrested immediately.
But it is the same place where former Chief Minister O.Panneer Selvam sat for penance before announce his rebel against the ADMK party's ex General secretary Sasikala. It is also the place where the party MLAs supporting Sasikala's nephew TTV Dinakaran sat and protested.
Youngsters and Civil society members have started criticising the police for following different rules for politicians and people.
