Bala made his directorial debut with the 1999 critically acclaimed super hit film 'Sethu' which gave Vikram his big break and the name of the character Chiyaan has stuck with him for good after that. Bala then went on to make intense films such as 'Nandha', 'Pithamagan', 'Naan Kadavul', 'Avan Ivan', 'Paradesi' and 'Naachiyar' that earned him a huge fan following.
Bala after a long gap started the film 'Vanangaan' with Suriya as the hero but after shooting for 40 days the project was dropped due to creative differences. Bala however continued the project with Arun Vijay replacing Suriya and Roshni Prakash in place of Krithi Shetty and the shooting is underway in Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi and its surroundings.
So far Bala films are known for intensity and violence but news has come out that 'Vanangaan' will be entirely different from his usual style. Sources say that the film focusses on the bonding between a brother and sister and will give viewers a breezy sentimental story. The film has music by G.V. Prakash Kumar and is planned to be released by the end of this year.
