'Newton', India's official entry to Oscars, was recently in the news when a national TV channel said that the film is a copy of the Iranian drama 'Secret Ballot'. Director Anurag Kashyap of 'Black Friday' and the recent 'Velvet' has hit out at those who are saying that the film is a plagiarized version of 'Secret Ballot'.

"With over-enthusiastic media and our cinephiles with an overactive imagination who called 'Newton' a copy of 'Secret Ballot'. Here is what the producer of 'Secret Ballot' said to me after watching 'Newton'. Marco Muller, the producer told me that it's a pretty decent film, definitely no rip off from his film ("even if the general concept is the same"). Below is the screen shot of our conversation," Anurag said, sharing the convo.

Well, the Academy jury too has to feel the same about the film. If they think it's a rip-off, 'Newton' doesn't stand a chance.
