A stowaway on a flight travelling from Nairobi, Kenya to London fell to his death on Sunday. Kenyan Airways reported that the body had fallen from the landing gear of a flight heading to Heathrow Airport. A bag, water and some food were found in the landing gear compartment of the plane where the man may have been hiding. The man’s body fell just a metre away from a resident who was sunbathing in his garden. A neighbour who was present at the time of the incident reported: “I heard a ‘whomp’. I went upstairs to look out of a window. At first I thought it was a [homeless person] asleep in the garden. He had all his clothes on and everything. I had a closer look and saw there was blood all over the walls of the garden … I realised immediately that he had fallen.”
He went on to say: “So I went outside and it was just then the neighbour came out and he was very shaken. He had been sunbathing and he had landed one metre away from him.” The Clapham resident also added: “If it had been two seconds later, he would have landed on the common where there were hundreds of people – my kids were in the garden 15 minutes before [he fell].” He mentioned that the victim’s body was intact because it was an “ice block.” A plane spotter in the area had also seen the body fall and had come to the site.
Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority Chief said that the man may have had legal access to the airport suggesting that it is likely that he may have been an employee there. The airways are working with authorities on the investigation of the case.
