Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, has hit back at the comments on air by Stephen Colbert, host of the late-night show, in a bold move. The noblewoman consequently last week issued a writ against Colbert over the jests from him earlier this month that alluded to rumored entanglements between Hanbury and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and linked it to the ongoing speculation surrounding the whereabouts of William's wife, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. The comments come on the back of news of Hanbury's legal action, disclosed on Friday ahead of Kate's diagnosis of cancer and the treatment that followed.
During a March 12 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, he alluded to the old rumor of an alleged affair with William and Hanbury. She has been married since June 2009 and is the mother of three children. Legal representatives for Hanbury confirmed that they had reached out to the show regarding these comments.
Hanbury, speaking through her legal team, has slammed the affair rumors. The reports of some tiff, in big or small ways, have been there for ages, and one such that comes to mind is a big rift between Kate and Hanbury, according to a certain report in 2019. Reports emerge and disappear without any supporting evidence.
Meanwhile, amid the spotlight on Hanburyâs personal life, scrutiny has also turned to her home decor. Social media users have so far flagged questions about some items and parts of the estate in photos that they think might be stolen Chinese artifacts, allegedly inherited by Hanbury's husband, David Rocksavage. This scrutiny comes in light of previous coverage of the historic estate by publications like Vanity Fair in 2013.
