What is the status of Indian movies at the Oscars?

The shortlist of movies for Best International film Oscars has been announced, and the Malayalam movie Jallikattu, which was the official Indian entry for the category at the 93rd Academy Awards, 2021, has failed to make it to the shortlist.

Now fifteen films are announced to compete to the later stages of the nominations. Films from 93 countries were eligible and the shortlisted movies are Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Quo Vadis, Aida?”, Chile, “The Mole Agent”, Czech Republic, “Charlatan”, Denmark, “Another Round”, France, “Two of Us”, Guatemala, “La Llorona”, Hong Kong, “Better Days”, Iran, “Sun Children”, Ivory Coast, “Night of the Kings”, Mexico, “I’m No Longer Here”, Norway, “Hope”, Romania, “Collective”, Russia, “Dear Comrades!”, Taiwan, “A Sun”.

These 15 movies will be moving to the next official phase one voting, which is going to happen on March 5-9. The Oscar nominations will be announced on March 15, and the awards will be presented on April 25. With this announcement, India's official entry Jallikattu directed by Lijo Jose Pelliserry is out of the Oscars race.
