In the backdrop of the irritating mentality prevailing among people in general and bus users in particular, the Govt. of Tamil Nadu has made an announcement converting many ‘luxury’ buses into ordinary buses, thus reducing the fares.

Across-the-board increase in bus fare was announced late last week by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu which cited that the increase was ‘inevitable’ keeping in view the huge losses incurred by the State Road Transport Corporation which found it tough even to pay the wages and salaries of its staff members. People haven’t taken kindly to the increase in bus fare.

In the meantime, the Govt. has made an announcement yesterday converting luxury buses on many routes into ordinary buses in an apparent effort to reduce people’s burden.

The announcement said that 498 special/deluxe buses have been converted into ordinary buses on various routes and added that the changes would take immediate effect. This announcement is sure to reduce fares of buses on considerable number of routes.
