State Award Jury explains how Dulquer got the award

There was widespread disbelief and murmurings when Dulquer was declared the Best Actor in the 46th Kerala State Film Awrads. Responding to media persons, jury chairman, popular director Mohan said that it was Dulquer and Jayasurya who were considered for the award in the final discussions.

Mammootty was not considered since the jury members felt that they have seen Mammootty in similar roles like in 'Pathemari'. The members felt that Dulquer's performance in 'Charlie' required some mannerisms and acting chops that were intense. Dulquer as Charlie had impressed with his passionate avatar. This was what worked in favour of the actor.
