State award for Periyar

Even before Sathyaraj's Periyar is released, the actor has started to attract the attention of the rationalists in the State.

Sathyaraj has been chosen for the annual 'Periyar' award to be presented the by the Tamil Nadu government as part of their efforts to propagate rationalist ideas among the masses.

The award which carries Rs one lakh cash and a gold chain would be presented to Sathyaraj on 27 January at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The award is being presented to Sathyaraj for accepting to do the role of Periyar without getting remuneration.
