A college communication department here says that its research shows that a film star should keep away from politics. They don't jell.

A strange thing to say in Tamil Nadu, which has shown the film fraternity that politics is their natural second calling. Kollywood's contribution to Tamil Nadu's politics includes such popular star-leaders as M G Ramachandran and his disciple J Jayalalitha. Not to forget screen writers like M Karunanidhi who first shot into fame with the script of ‘Parashakti' and then became Tamil Nadu's chief minister.

Today, there is a new generation of Tamil star-politicians in Sarath Kumar, DMK MP, Napoleon, M R Ravi and others. Yet, a survey by the department of culture and communications of the Loyola College, one of the best-known institutions in the city, has found that 70% of the 6,500 people covered were for stars keeping off politics. The survey was done in 40 parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry

More than 75 % respondent said they would not vote for parties launched by actors.

So, while the survey is an indication to actor Vijaykanth not to launch a party, it tells Rajnikanth, that what Amitabh Baacchhan says is perhaps right.
