The return of the Chennai Super Kings after two years has probably influenced Star group to pump in an astronomical INR 16,347.5 crore (US$ 2.55 billion) for the worldwide telecast and digital exploitation rights.

The deal is for the period of five years from 2018 to 2022 and Star pipped rival Sony as it had made a consolidated bid for and won all the categories television in India, digital in India, and rights for the USA, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the rest of the world. Incidentally the winning amount INR 16,347.5 crores was more than the total amount of highest bids for individual categories which came up to only INR 15,819.51 crores.
