DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the latter for an appointment to discuss the raging Cauvery issue.

Relay protests have been going on at almost all places in Tamil Nadu against the BJP-led Centre’s reluctance in setting up a Cauvery Management Board (CMB). People and farmers alike, supported keenly by almost all the political parties sans the exception of the ruling AIADMK in the State, have been waging protests demanding tha Board be set up immediately as per the Supreme Court’s directions.

Stalin led the DMK in a ‘black-flag’ demonstration against the Prime Minister during his last week’s visit to Chennai to take part in the diamond jubilee celebrations of Adyar Cancer Institute and also to inaugurate Defence Expo off Chennai.  In the meantime, Stalin held a meeting of DMK’s allies and friendly parties at ‘Anna Arivalayam’, the party’s Chennai headquarters, on Monday.

The meeting decided to meet the Prime Minister personally in New Delhi as a delegation to explain Tamil Nadu’s dire needs for continuous supply of Cauvery water from Karnataka where it originates in Coorg.

“People have lost trust in the State Govt.; we request the Prime Minister for an appointment to hear the people’s grievances.  We also want his direct interference in the Cauvery issue to resolve it permanently,” Stalin said in his letter to the Prime Minister.
