DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin has extended his oral support in principle to Trinamool Congress president and West Bengal chief-minister Mamata Banerjee’s idea of forming a pan-India non-BJP, non-Congress third front comprising regional and national parties opposed to both the BJP and the Congress.

Telengana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) president and Telengana chief-minister Chandrasekara Rao was the one who initially mooted this proposal by visiting Kolkata and holding talks with ‘Didi’ Mamata Banerjee a few months back.  Mamata, keen to upset the BJP’s apple-cart during next year’s Parliamentary elections, is now taking the issue forward by discussing with like-minded parties.

Tweeting on his Twitter account welcoming Mamata’s idea, Salin said that the DMK had always batted for a strong federal Govt. at the Centre and a self-reliant Govt. at the State(s).

“We have always stood for the unity of regional parties and for a stronger federal cooperation.  I endorse the efforts of Mamata Banerjee to bring together various political parties to oppose the autocratic and anti-democratic rule of the BJP,” Stalin said on his Twitter account.
