It was an ordinary week at the box office with the two new releases not quite managing to create any dent. There was ample moolah expected to flow in with the arrival of biggies like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Singh Saab The Great. However, between the two of these, less than 40 crore came in during the week. These are in fact just acceptable weekend numbers of a big ticket film.

A lot was riding on Singh Saab The Great as it was perceived as a comeback solo film for Sunny Deol. It had its merits too and there were hopes in the industry that at least in single screen theatres there would be a rampage. Though that did happen in select properties, all India footfalls were limited with around 23 crores coming in. Frankly, the film and especially director Anil Sharma deserved better.

As for director Punit Malhotra, it has been nothing but a bolt out of blue if one looks at the collections of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. If the weekend was an indicator of where the film was headed, weekdays went further down as the film managed to accumulate just around 14 crore. These are very miserly collections for a film that came with such high credentials involving Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan. All associated with the film can now be expected to quickly move on to their next than wonder what really went wrong with this romcom.
