Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Jayakumar has defended the Government’s recent decision to hike bus fare across the State and said that it was rather unfortunate that even after the hike, the State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) was continuing to incur losses.

The Minister was very vocal in his opposition to the DMK for spearheading the protests against the hike in bus fare.  “We announced the bus fare hike only with a very heavy heart as we were pushed to the brink.  The DMK has disappointed us and the people by spearheading the protest against bus fare and has once again failed to behave like a responsible opposition party,” he said.

“People are intelligent and can’t be cheated by Stalin’s false statistics and allegations against the Govt.,” Jayakumar said and added that the AIADMK regime headed by Edapadi K. Palanisami would never set in motion anti-people measures of any kind.

“I want to share one more thing with the people; even after the hike in bus fare, SRTS continues to incur losses,” he said.
