Javed Abidi, executive director of NCPEDP and one of India's leading disabled campaigners, welcomed Shah Rukh's decision to aid the cause of the disabled. "It's a reward for us that he has decided to join us. When I went to meet Shah Rukh for the first time in Mumbai, he sounded earnest, focused and interested.
"In fact, he wanted to know more about disability. And I was very impressed when he could say 'NCPEDP' without a pause at a press conference in Mumbai," Abidi told a press conference here Tuesday.
Shah Rukh spent several years in Delhi and studied at St Columba's School and the Mass Communications Research Centre at Jamia Milia Islamia. He also got his first big break in this city when he was signed for the TV serial "Fauji".
Abidi had a special request for Delhi residents and VIPs with regard to the Dec 24 show. "Please don't embarrass us by asking for free passes for the show. The show is not for a commercial purpose, it's for a cause."
He said: "We have premium tickets for VIPs and they will get all the comforts during the show. No one will be given passes and we are very firm about this."
The three-hour show will feature song and dance routines by Shah Rukh and the other stars. Tickets are available at all outlets of Planet M, PVR Cinema and Pizza Corner as well as Ansal Plaza.
Commenting on the response so far to the show, Abidi said: "Yesterday was the first day of the sale of tickets, and the response was good."
