SRK and Kajol starrer 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge' is arguably the most iconic Bollywood movie of all time. It hit screens on 20th of October 1995 and has completed 25 years of its theatrical release today. This epic romantic - comedy with emotional and dramatic elements became a sensational hit upon its release and was well received by critics as well. It gave us the most iconic couple of Indian cinema as well as a bunch of quotable lines.
On the ocassion of silver jubilee of the movie's theatrical release, Leicester City is set to unveil a bronze statue of the movie's leads i.e., characters of Raj and Simran. Mark Williams, Director of Destination Marketing at Heart of London Business Alliance was quoted saying, "It's fantastic to be adding such titans of international cinema to our trail as Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. This statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and the cultural bridges that cinema can help build, and we're in no doubt it will attract fans from all around the world."
Leicester Square served as the location for the part of movie where Raj and Simran cross paths with each other for the first time. The duo's statue will be first Bollywood related statue in the Leicester Square that already features impressive sculptures of various iconic silver screen characters like Harry Potter, Mr Bean, Wonder Woman, Gene Kelly, Laurel and Hardy among others.
