Srimanthudu Controversy: Mythri Movie Makers React
- IndiaGlitz, [Friday,February 02 2024]
The longstanding controversy surrounding the narrative of Srimanthudu has persisted for several years. Released in 2015 and featuring Mahesh Babu and Shruti Haasan, the film marked Mythri Movie Makers' inaugural production, solidifying their position as a prominent Indian studio.
The dispute stems from novelist Sarath Chandra, who filed a lawsuit against director Siva Koratala, alleging that the storyline was plagiarized from his novel, Chacchentha Prema. Despite Koratala's denial of the charges, Sarath Chandra emerged victorious in court.
In response, Siva Koratala appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, contesting the lower court's ruling. Although the final verdict is pending, the Supreme Court has shown alignment with the initial decision. Consequently, Sarath Chandra is now seeking proper acknowledgment for his work.
Mythri Movie Makers, however, remains steadfast in their stance, asserting that the narrative is not a reproduction. In an official statement released today, the production company expressed their position:
âWe address the discussion around Mr. Koratala Sivaâs âSrimanthuduâ amidst claims of similarity to the novel âChachentha Prema.â Both works, existing in the public domain, showcase distinct narratives with no overlap, a fact readily verifiable by those who examine the book and film. As the matter is currently under legal review, with no hearings or verdicts to date, we urge media and commentators to refrain from premature conclusions.
We emphasize the importance of basing discourse on informed comparison and legal outcomes. We stand firmly by the uniqueness of âSrimanthuduâ and our core idea of adopting a village and encourage whomever interested to personally assess the two works. Our appeal is for patience and trust in the legal process, respecting the principles of fairness and integrity. Thank you for your understanding and support.â
This statement underscores the need for a thorough and informed examination of both works, while emphasizing patience and trust in the ongoing legal proceedings. It invites interested parties to personally assess the distinctiveness of Srimanthudu and encourages a discourse based on fairness and integrity.
