After doing character roles in films like 'Govindudu Andarivadele' and 'Sarrainodu, 'Terror' and 'Mental Police' actor Srikanth is ready with 'Raa Raa', which will hit the screens on Feb 23. In this interview, he talks about the film, his role and more.
What pulled you towards doing this horror-comedy? Is it because the genre is in currency?
The idea of humans scaring away ghosts attracted me to the film. The film also has an engaging premise. This is my 125th film. And this is the first time that I have done a horror-comedy.
The characters played by Shakalaka Shankar, Raghu Babu, Posani Krishna Murali, and others provide the right padding for the movie.
Isn't the idea of humans scaring ghosts already there in 'Anando Brahma'?
That is just one of the several highlights of the movie. 'Raa Raa' is more layered. What happens when the ultimate ghost appears is also there. There are doses of sentiment between the humans and the ghosts. Technically also, it's an interesting film. For horrors, the BGM is very important. And the music director has done a great job regarding this.
What is your character in the movie?
I have played an out-of-form film director who wants to do a horror film to deliver a hit. He ends up working with real ghosts. And he even falls in love with one!
Why are we not hearing the director's name?
Actually, it was initially directed by a guy. He and the producer developed differences in the middle. I tried to pacify them both but to no avail. It's then that some other director, an established name, entered the scene and completed the film. I don't want to reveal his name.
Didn't you get offers for negative roles in recent years? Why did you not do them?
I did get quite a few offers. But I didn't do them. As of now, I am doing three films as the main lead. There is no truth in the news that I am doing a key role in 'Srinivasa Kalyanam'. I don't want to do negative characters as of now. 'Operation 2019', one of my next films, makes a commentary on today's political scenario. It's a novel film where we are going to show whether it's the leaders who are betraying the people or it's the other way round.
After your elder son Roshan debuted in 'Nirmala Convent', your younger son Rohan is also debuting in a film. Tell us about that. When will Roshan do his second film?
He is doing Prabhu Deva's next. It's a horror film. The film will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. As for Roshan, he is currently doing a diploma course in acting in Los Angeles. He will debut as an actual male lead three years down the line.
This seems to be a period when many stars are entering politics. Do you have any such plans?
I have no political plans. I have no sights on politics. I am better off being myself.
