Actress Sridevi passed away on the night of Saturday but her mortal remains still remain in a morgue in a Dubai hospital.
According to the law in Dubai, any death (including natural deaths) outside a hospital has to be thoroughly investigated. First the Dubai police investigated the circumstances surrounding the death and the autopsy took place. The officials said the the postmortem would take a maximum of 24 hours.
On Monday evening the postmortem report was out and it said that the death happened due to "accidental drowning in the bathtub". Contrary to earlier reports. cardiac arrest wasn't the cause of death.
After the postmortem and its findings. The case has been taken over by the Dubai Public Prosecutor from the police. It is said that the DPP will again interrogate Sridevi's husband and her relative on Tuesday morning. Medical records of Sridevi have been sought from her Indian doctors to completely asses the reasons that may have caused her untimely death.
It is also said that the DPP may order another postmortem if the officer feels it is needed. In that case there will be further delay in the mortal remains being brought back to India.
However the family hopes that Sridevi's mortal remains will be brought back to her Mumbai residence today. Many Bollywood and Kollywood stars including Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, other film industry celebrities and also fans are waiting in Mumbai to pay their last respects to the veteran actress.
