Sri Lankan cricket team can now breathe easy as they seal their place in the Cricket 2019 World Cup. They became the 8th and final team to qualify automatically for the World Cup along with Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa. West Indies seven wicket defeat to England closed the points table with Windies at 78 points and Sri Lanka at 86 points.
West Indies will now have to fight it out in the 10 team qualifying tournament which will take place in 2018. The two time world cup champion will have to go through the qualifying matches by taking on winners of ICC World Cricket League Championship and the top two sides from the ICC World Cricket League Division 2.
Sri Lankan captain Upul Tharanga said he was relieved at the outcome yet there was a lot of work to be done before the World Cup. Sri Lankan cricket has been going through a rough phase with continuous loses in all forms of cricket.
