Netflix's 'Squid Games' makes history once again - Deets inside

After taking over the streaming charts and social media conversations, Netflix's Squid Game is now in the run to win three Golden Globe Awards. The Korean series was nominated in three different categories when the announcements for the Golden Globe Awards were made on Monday. The survival drama is up for Best Drama Series, where it will compete with 'The Morning Show', 'Pose', 'Succession' and 'Lupin'.
Written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the nine-part series about contestants engaged in deadly Korean children's playground games to win 45.6 billion Korean Won in prize money, has become a global phenomenon, viewed by 142 million households over the first four weeks of its release on September 17.
Lee Jung-jae, who portrays the role of the protagonist Seong Gi-hun on Squid Game, received a nomination for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The final nomination went to Oh Yeong-su for the Best Supporting Actor, Television. The South Korean actor portrayed the role of contestant 001, Oh Il-nam, who is revealed at the end to be the person in charge of the games.
The Netflix series started streaming in September and since then Squid Game has become the most-watched series on Netflix. On the show, contestants participate in a series of children’s games, including “Red Light, Green Light” and tug of war. However, there are deathly consequences to losing a game, a fact that the contestants only discover once they start playing the first game.
