Spread of dengue in control in Tamil Nadu: Union Health Minister

Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey has said that the spread of dengue in Tamil Nadu was very much in control and assured that there was no cause for worrying.

The Minister, who was in Chennai over the weekend, addressed newsmen after inspecting the mode of treatment given to the dengue-affected patients at the Rajiv Gandhi Govt. General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai. “Dengue-affected patients have been receiving top-priority treatment at various Govt. Hospitals across the State and the State Govt. is leaving no stone unturned in treating the affected persons,” he said.

It is stated that more than 12,000 dengue cases have been spotted in the State during the past couple of months out of which there have been close to 40 deaths.  Amid criticism by Opposition parties that the State Govt. hasn’t been functioning sincerely in arresting the spread of dengue as it is keen to save its own skin, the Prime Minister dispatched the Union Health Minister for an on-the-spot inspection.

A team of doctors from New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) accompanied the Minister. “Dengue has been under control thanks to the initiatives taken by the State Govt.  We shall hold consultations with the State and take further necessary action,” the Minister said.
